I had the pleasure of redesigning the website for Benicia Ballet, a well-established ballet studio located in Benicia, California that has been a cornerstone of the community since 1986. With an true passion for ballet, Teresa Taylor has transformed Benicia Ballet into a nurturing environment where young dancers grow and thrive. I am so inspired by Teresa’s journey and know you will be too!
Teresa took over the studio during the tumultuous year of 2020, stepping into a significant role at a challenging time. "I have an unexplainable passion for ballet, and I love teaching and watching the students grow into young adulthood. The dance studio becomes a second home for them as they often stay with us for 10 or more years!" Her dedication to creating a supportive and enriching environment for dancers is at the heart of everything she does.
What Teresa loves most about running Benicia Ballet is the chance to share her passion for ballet in all aspects of the studio. "To be honest, I love being in charge after being an employee for 30 years. It is nice to have some control over what I do. I love watching the dancers grow in dance and life and see where they end up after high school and college. I love when they come back to visit after being gone and hearing that they miss us, their dance family!" This deep connection with her students and seeing them succeed is a major highlight of her role.
However, owning and operating a dance studio comes with its challenges. One significant hurdle Teresa faces is managing the extensive administrative duties. "Getting support for all the administrative duties of running a business is tough. I'm a dancer, teacher, and mover, and being behind the computer feels like it is killing me. Owning a studio is a 24/7 job and it is pretty thankless as no one realizes how much you pour into just keeping it running, not to mention how hard you try to please the clientele." Despite these challenges, Teresa’s commitment to Benicia Ballet remains strong.
For other women considering starting their own business, Teresa offers this advice: "It is 10 times harder and more time-consuming than you can imagine. Have money set aside to float the business when necessary. Finding good help is extremely hard. If you find someone good, revere them and pay them as they are invaluable to your life happiness."
When she’s not at the studio, Teresa enjoys spending time with her family on vacation somewhere out of town. These moments of relaxation and adventure provide a well-deserved break and keep her rejuvenated.
Teresa’s journey with Benicia Ballet is a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and resilience. The joy of watching her students grow and succeed makes every challenge worthwhile. I am grateful for the opportunity to share her inspiring story and celebrate the incredible work being done at Benicia Ballet.
